Scope and Contents

A duplicate of a lease (in English and Chinese) by Mowqua, Hong merchant, to Charles Magniac of Buildings Nos 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the Creek Hong, Canton, dated Canton, 1 November 1823. A note on the reverse of the document records that the lease has been cancelled.

A renewal of the lease (in English and Chinese) of the Imperial Hong, Canton, of 1 July 1823, supended by war, previously letting the property from Howqua to Charles Magniac, now leasing the property from Young Howqua, heir of Howqua, Hong merchant, to Alexander Matheson, representative of Hollingworth Magniac, heir of the late Charles Magniac, dated Canton, 18 March 1845.
